Anticipating a Frost Event with Confidence: The 4 Essential Checks

  • Updated

In this article, we review the four key points to check in order to confidently anticipate a frost event.

Installing (or reinstalling) your sensor

We recommend placing your sensor in the coldest area of your plot, as close as possible to the future buds.

Once installed, make sure it is properly connected to the Weenat app and that it is transmitting its first data (Please allow 15 to 30 minutes before the data appears in your application).

Checking the battery

If your sensor is more than 3 years old, we recommend replacing the battery.

All Weenat sensors are equipped with a highly durable battery with a minimum lifespan of 3 years.
Replacing it in advance helps prevent shutdown at a critical moment.

If you need a new battery, please contact your Weenat distributor or our Support team.

Checking the container and the wick

The container

  • Fill it with water up to three-quarters once the sensor is installed in your plot.

  • Add 5% of 90% alcohol to lower the freezing point of the water in case of very low temperatures.

The wick

  • Make sure it is clean and intact so that water can rise to the probe through capillary action.

  • Ensure that the wick is properly wet.

This system allows your frost sensor to measure wet-bulb temperature in real time.

Activating alerts

You can create a phone alert based on the critical temperature threshold and the parameter you wish to monitor.

With the Weenat Expert subscription, you can add up to 5 phone numbers for frost call alerts (compared to only 1 number with the Weenat Plus subscription).

We recommend that you:

  • test your alerts

  • save the phone number that will call you when the alert is triggered: +33 2 53 48 07 48
