How to activate a frost alert on my phone ?

Why create a frost alert?

In order to be notified in the middle of the night or early morning of a frost risk, we strongly recommend creating a frost alert.

By creating this alert, you will be called at the phone number registered on your Weenat account (and up to 5 additional numbers if you have the Weenat Expert plan).

An automated voice server will call you and tell you which plot or sensor triggered your alert.

This alert is fully customisable: dry temperature or wet bulb temperature, trigger value, the plot(s) and/or sensor(s) concerned, with or without phone call, and the name of the alert.

Prerequisites for creating and receiving a frost alert

  • Have a correctly installed frost sensor: How do I install my Weenat frost sensor?
  • Have a sensor whose battery is less than 2-3 years old
  • Have created a wet bulb or dry temperature alert (see below) and have it activated during the frost risk period
  • Have entered a phone number and have the phone switched on (not in aeroplane mode) during the frost period

How do I create a frost alert?

  1. Go to the "Alerts" page
  2. Click on "Create an alert"
  3. Select "Simple alert"
  4. Select wet bulb temperature (or dry temperature), click on "Next"
  5. Select "below", click on "Next"
  6. Set a trigger value (we recommend slightly above the frost temperature), click on "Next"
  7. Select the plot(s) concerned (or the sensor(s) concerned), click on "Next"
  8. Click on "Activate phone alerts"
  9. Check the phone number (and if you wish, add others if you have a Weenat Expert subscription)
  10. Don't forget to save the phone number that will call you in your contacts if the alert is triggered (name this contact "Frost alert" for example), click on "Next"
  11. Rename it if needed, check the summary of your alert, and if everything is ok, click on "Confirm"

The alert is created. By default, it is activated.

But if the frost risk is not yet relevant for you, you can deactivate it (but don't forget to reactivate it before it becomes the risk season).

To check that it works as you want

If you want to make sure the phone call will be triggered at the right moment, feel free to set a trigger temperature value close to the wet bulb temperature currently measured by the sensor.

How does the Frost alert work?

When you activate alerts with phone calls, Weenat calls you up to 3 times in a row to warn you in case of frost on your plots.
If you do not answer, the app sends you an SMS.

Frost alert status

This applies to frost alerts but the logic also applies to other types of alert.

The alert is displayed in the "triggered" section as long as all parameters meet the trigger conditions.

For example, if the wet bulb temperature is below 0°C, the alert switches to "triggered".

If the wet bulb temperature is above 0°C, the alert switches back to "activated". And so on...

Editing and checking the destination phone numbers for the Frost alert

To check the phone number registered to receive phone alerts:

  • Go to your account (badge with your initials)
  • In your account menu, click on "Contact information"
  • The main phone number is the one that will receive the phone alerts
(If you have an Expert subscription, you can add up to 5 phone numbers to receive frost alerts)
