Diagnose and fix wind measurement issues with your Weenat anemometer

  • Updated

This article helps you diagnose and fix the most common causes of inaccurate wind measurements or missing wind data with your Weenat anemometer (wind speed remains at 0 km/h and/or wind direction is missing or incorrect).

Step 1: Check the installation environment

An unsuitable installation environment can significantly affect wind measurements.

  • Install the anemometer on flat, open ground.

  • Avoid proximity to walls, buildings, trees, or any obstacles.

  • Ideally, the distance between the anemometer and any obstacle should be greater than 10 times the height of the obstacle.

Step 2: Check the installation and condition of the equipment

As with all our sensors, regular checks are recommended (at least once a month).

  • Make sure the antenna is properly installed and securely tightened.

  • Check the integrity of the housing: it must be intact and properly closed.

  • Verify the installation depth of the sensor, using the reference marks on the sensor base.

  • Ensure the sensor is correctly oriented, with the marking pointing north.

Step 3: Check the moving parts of the anemometer

Blocked or dirty components can affect measurement accuracy.

  • Inspect the wind vane and make sure it rotates freely through 360°.

  • Ensure that the wind vane and cups are properly clipped into place.

  • Remove any leaves, soil, insects, or debris.

  • If necessary, gently clean the cups using a damp cloth.

If the issue persists

If, after these checks, wind data is still incorrect or missing, please contact our customer support team at
support@weenat.com, specifying:

  • the sensor number,

  • or, if unavailable, the field name or installation location.

Feel free to attach photos of your sensor (installation setup, inside the cups and wind vane, central shaft, etc.) to help us diagnose the issue more quickly.
