You will need the following material:
- an auger (diameter = 38-40mm)
- a bucket
- water
- a felt-tip pen
- a stick or a rod
Here are the steps to follow:
-
Choose your location.
Choose an area that is representative of your plot: soil, vegetation, average irrigation zone, close to the root structure.
Avoid the edges of the field. -
Make a hole with the help of an auger (diameter = 38-40 mm).
With a felt-tip pen, make a mark on your auger corresponding to the root depth at which the soil capacitance probe will be positioned. (by the orange cap).
-
Remove the soil and place it in a bucket.
Stop when you have reached the mark. Digging too deep could risk forming an air hole that would affect the quality of the data.
- Add water to the soil in the bucket and mix until reaching a liquid mud.
-
Pour the mud into the hole.
This liquid mud will prevent the formation of air holes. This ensures good contact between the soil and the probe for even more precise measures.
-
Delicately insert the sensor into the hole by holding it by the cap until reaching the wanted depth.
If you feel a resistance before the wanted depth, do not force the sensor into the hole. This would risk harming the equipment.
If the insertion is difficult, repeat the soil removal until reaching the right depth.
Push the probe all the way to the top of the cap. -
Dig a hole and plant the pole of the electronic box near the probe.
-
Screw the antenna on the box.
- Pick up the sensor's serial number, it will be asked to connect it to the Weenat-App.
-
Log in to the Weenat-App.
Add the sensor to the App by clicking on the + (located in the top right corner of your screen) then on A sensor. Add the tensiometer's serial number.
-
Link a sensor to your plot by following the steps in this article 👉How to link a sensor to my plot?
The synchronisation of the data between the sensor and the app can take up to 15 minutes, just in time for a coffee break 😉.
