Soil temperature is a key piece of data for anticipating crop emergence, planning sowing dates, and monitoring soil biological activity. Weenat makes it accessible directly on your plots, from both the Weather and Irrigation views.
Which sensors are compatible?
Depending on the equipment installed on your plot, two metrics may be available:
- Soil temperature — provided by soil thermometers (T-MINI) and fertigation probes (EC). A single value per plot.
- Soil temperature by depth — provided by tensiometers (CHP) and capacitive probes (CAPA). Multiple values depending on the instrumented horizons.
View soil temperature in My Farm
Soil temperature is available in the metric selector of the "My Farm" view, in both the Weather and Irrigation views. On the map, each plot displays its real-time value. Hovering over a marker shows the value and the sensor's last transmission date.
The Soil Temperature widget on a plot
On a plot page, add the Soil Temperature widget to display the measurement over time. The chart auto-scales around the measured values for optimal readability.
Setting a monitoring target
The widget offers 3 monitoring modes:
- No threshold — the curve is displayed on its own, without a target temperature reference.
- Target temperature — a threshold is drawn on the chart. Ideal for monitoring a germination threshold, for example.
- Temperature range — a target range is displayed between two values. Useful for tracking an optimal sowing window.
The curve always includes the threshold or range on the Y-axis, even if the measured values move away from it.
View historical data
Soil temperature is accessible from the History tab on your plot page. Select the "Soil temperature" or "Soil temperature by depth" metric depending on your sensor. Multiple horizons can be displayed simultaneously, each with its own curve.
Export soil temperature data
From your organisation's data export form, the Soil temperature metric automatically generates all available columns (all sources combined: thermometer, EC, tensiometer, capacitive). A single button is all it takes.
Set up an alert
Alerts can be configured for soil temperature from the Alerts section on your plot page. Two metrics are available:
- Soil temperature — for soil thermometers and EC probes.
- Soil temperature by depth — for tensiometers and capacitive probes.
Set a low or high threshold based on your needs (frost risk, optimal germination temperature, etc.).
Frequently asked questions
I can't see soil temperature on my plot — why?
The metric is only visible if at least one compatible sensor is linked to the plot and transmitting data. Make sure your sensor is properly associated with the plot.
